The Origin

Diamond in the rough. Someone (or something) that has hidden exceptional characteristics and/or future potential.

You'd probably wonder why I named my blog "Diamond in the rough" when I could have used my name or other labels. Well, it has a story behind it--just a brief one.

As a Mass Communication student of Ateneo de Davao University, I've been exposed to video editing and a bit of photography. Basically, media as a whole. I've tried becoming the director and editor of music videos and short films.

However, last February 2013, there was a shift of roles.

Dax Daddie, a recent graduate of the same course, had a brilliant idea. Before he went out of the portals of Ateneo, he decided to create a music video themed "high fashion" and tapped me to be its artist. Of course, how could I resist? Fashion it is. A rare opportunity.

We used one of the empty rooms in the school and transformed into a studio. That's our director, Dax Daddie, setting up the lights.
However, our time was very limited since Dax wanted to pass the video to a contest here in the Philippines. Together with Joshua Medroso, the talented make-up artist and stylist, we
used all the resources we got. Featured also in this video is Ateneo's pride in Latin Dance Competition, Ace Saquin.

Second day of shoot. We got all the help we could get from ever supportive friends, Mahatter & Marj (left, respectively). Joshua wasn't just a MUA or stylist. He also became the wind I mean, the one who created the wind effect.

After three days of tiresome shoot, Diamonds was born. If you're not familiar with it,  Diamonds is a song recorded by Rihanna in her seventh studio album Unapologetic. This song spoke of strength and beauty. It was the perfect song.

Unfailingly, all our efforts paid off as this music video brought home the bacon in the 2013 Media & Communication Summit music video contest held at One Esplanade, Pasay, Manila.

Well, I won't keep you waiting here it is.

I get a lot of inspirations from different fashion icons and talented artists. I've always wanted to channel my interests, but I didn't know how. Then I thought of blogging. A friend of mine who has been blogging for quite some time encouraged me to create my personal blog.

And so, Diamonds in the rough came into existence.

This is just the beginning of another chapter that I have chosen to unfold. An introduction to a whole new world I shall be exploring. And if you don't mind, you can come with me as I capture fashion, beauty, food and life's finest moments with my camera.

I don't wanna be the next him or the next her. Katy Perry said in her movie Part of Me:
".. I want to be the first Katy Perry."
Just like her, if given the chance, I wanna be the first Ralz San Pedro.
